What is Reiki?
Reiki is a form of energy healing developed in Japan by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. It has been shown to promote the body’s self-healing abilities using the energy that surrounds and flows through us every day.
Reiki is commonly used for stress relief; as an adjunct to other physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual healing modalities; and, as I like to say, for “hitting the reset button” or “clearing out the junk.”
Frequently Asked Questions
What Can Reiki Help With?
Anything and Everything. Reiki helps restore your own balance so you can heal physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually. If dealing with a medical condition, it's recommended to use this as an adjunct therapy and not as the only course of treatment.
Are There Any Contraindications?
Only if you don't want to have it done. Reiki is safe to do with all conditions.
What Do I have To Do During a Typical Healing Session?
Nothing, really. Try to take the time to relax for a bit. Whatever you do or don't do, Reiki will do it's own thing and your body will respond however it will, absorbing what it needs without any focus on your part. Some people fall asleep on the table and will still have the same benefits as those who try to embrace the Reiki vibe.
What Will I Feel During The Treatment?
This is a different experience for everyone, but here are a few common reports:
A sensation of drifting off or floating
Heat or cold sensations under the practitioner's hands
A release that presents with muscle twitching, coughing, crying
A rush of ideas, or an answer to something that has been troubling you
Seeing colors or shapes
Seeing signs or symbols
Seeing images or memories
Feeling a presence (guides, angels, family members)
How Will I Feel After?
The after effects are again different and may occur immediately or after a few days:
A reduction in pain
An increase in pain ("healing crisis" usually lasting one hour to one day)
A little groggy or out of it (fresh air and hydration helps)
A rising of emotions whether sad or joyful, allow them to release
A feeling of relief or well-being
How Often Should I Do This?
This is different for everyone. Some just need a little boost to hit the reset button and are much improved after one session. Others dealing with consistent stressful or chronic issues, may require more frequent visits at first (perhaps once a week or every other week) before weaning off and coming in on an as needed basis. Some embrace the balancing of Reiki and make it a regular part of their lifestyle.
