What is Holistic Medicine?

"Whole"istic medicine is designed to uncover the “why” of disease in looking at the "whole" of a person. It identifies and addresses the upstream causes of illness and resolves the downstream effects.

The problem with traditional Western medicine is that it’s designed to treat signs and symptoms, mostly through pharmaceuticals, which can cause their own issues in the form of side effects.

Holistic medicine uncovers and addresses the original cause of those signs and symptoms and returns you to a place of balance. We do this by looking at every aspect of your life that contributes to your health and well being, from what you put into your body to your sleep, activity, and even thought patterns.

Using this information, we create a customized treatment program designed to get you back in balance.

It’s like hitting the reset button on your health.

What is involved in a typical treatment in Holistic Medicine?

There really isn’t a “typical treatment” in holistic medicine because we don’t use standardized approaches or protocols.

Instead, you’re treated as an individual with unique needs.

In general, we’ll spend your initial 60-minute session going over your intake paperwork and developing your profile. We’ll go over options for lifestyle adjustments that could improve your health, and discuss ways you can make those changes.

During subsequent sessions, we’ll review how you’re doing (physically and emotionally) and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. From time to time it might be helpful to order one or more tests to shed more light on your specific issues. If so, we’ll go over what tests are recommended and why, and will help you make decisions about whether and how to get them done.

What is Family & Caregiver Education?

In speaking with many of our patients, we recognize the need to bridge the connection between some of our patients and their families & caregivers. Having lived with a spouse and raised kids with Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Tom offers a consultation session to help explain the unique roles a family member and caregiver can play in facilitating growth and intentional support for their loved ones.

Allow Tom to speak with members of your family, your loved ones, or anybody that interacts with you either in-office or virtually. He will share accounts of situations he's been in and will be able to offer a unique insight to empathy.

***This is not a counseling session, nor should it take the place of a professional therapy session.***

What's My Role?

If holistic medicine doesn’t rely on drugs to restore health, then what’s the client’s role?

In order for any intervention to be successful, you’ve got to be willing to make changes in your life and stick to them. We're here to guide and support you every step of the way, but we can’t promise that the road will always be easy. Big results may require big changes.

By working with us, you’re making a serious commitment to your health. Yet the rewards will far surpass any difficulties you may have in the transition.

If you’re part of a package plan (see below), you’ll not only have our support, you’ll also be part of a social media community who can share their own tips, tricks, and encouragement.

Making a healthy lifestyle shift requires a commitment not only of energy, but also of time. We'll try to make things as easy as possible by recommending meal plans and recipes, along with exercise options, to fit your schedule.

As long as you’re willing to make time for yourself and your health, you will see results!

What Will Be Addressed In My Plan?

Holistic medicine is effective because it is thorough. Your overall health can be influenced by many factors. Topics that could be addressed include (but are not limited to): nutrition, sleep, exercise, stress relief, and general lifestyle habits.

Are You the Right Practitioner For Me?

Owing to our extensive background in health and fitness, we work with a variety of people, and we don’t turn anyone away.

Our specialties lie in two areas:

  • Dr. Patty's fellow zebras (those with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, MAST Cell Activation Disorder, Autonomic Dysfunction, underlying coinfections and/or exposures such as mold, tick borne illnesses, and other chronic viral infections)

  • Tom's fellow serious athletes looking to reset their health for more efficient training and better results

That said, we welcome all who are ready to take an active role in their healing, and we treat each of our clients with the same high level of individualized care.

In addition to the services discussed on this website, Patricia Stott is also licensed by the Pastoral Medical Association to offer Pastoral Science & Medicine services (PS&M). PS&M services are not state licensed or regulated by the state and do not include the diagnosis or treatment of disease nor the prescription of pharmaceutical drugs or controlled substances.
